# Unclasp

> Browser-based PDF tools and a separate developer API for PDF password removal.

Unclasp provides a website PDF password remover that requires the current PDF
password, plus supported PDF page, image, metadata, and text utilities. Website
tools are processed locally in the browser and do not have an application
upload fallback. The developer API is a separate service: it receives PDF
uploads and processes them on its server.

## Important limitations

- PDF-to-Markdown and PDF comparison operate on selectable text; they do not OCR scanned pages or compare visual layout.
- Edit PDF currently supports adding a text overlay; it does not edit or remove existing page content.
- Password removal requires the existing password.
- The website tools are not substitutes for cryptographic signatures or secure redaction.
